There are schools that are taking a different path to achieve success. Their headteachers believe that high-stakes accountability, monitoring, endless data collectionf and micromanagement are destroying teachers' lives and the lives of the children they teach. They believe that the retention and recruitment crisis is a consequence of putting teachers under constant scrutiny and comparing schools results with other schools in league tables. At the root of the problem, these headteachers argue, is the Ofsted inspection regime and the damage it inflicts on teachers and schools in their attempt either to remain Outstanding or to strive to achieve it.
Jeremy Hannay, Headteacher: Three Bridges Primary School
The 'There is Another Way' conference will give headteachers the opportunity to walk an alternative path with colleagues who share their vision of leading a school with collaboration, heart and community at its core. The conference will be led by Jeremy Hannay, Headteacher of Three Bridges Primary School in Southall, West London. Jeremy coined the conference title 'There is Another Way' and brings the maxim to life in the way his wonderful school, its teachers and its community learns and supports one another each and every day.
Your conference organisers are Suneta Bagri, founder of 'Every Teacher Matters', and Steve Waters, founder of the 'Teach Well Alliance'. Both Suneta's and Steve's organisations support schools to develop a culture of staff wellbeing and mental health.
'Teachers Come First' and 'Teach Well Alliance' believe that, if schools look after their staff first, they are able to teach with energy and inspiration. They are also better able to care for the wellbeing and mental health of the children and young people in their care.
We want to make sure that there is time and space for you to reflect on your own wellbeing in the context of your own school. We have restricted the number of delegates to 40 tickets to ensure the conference is intimate, friendly and interactive. 20 tickets will be available to primary headteachers, 10 of which will be allocated to serving headteachers, and 20 tickets to secondary headteachers, 10 of which will be allocated to serving headteachers.
If your school is an all-through or specialist school, your ticket allocation will count as either primary or secondary. The ticket allocation will decrease as tickets are sold, showing you how many tickets in each category remain.
